Rebecca and I want to let you know that we’re praying for all our readers. We pray that you’ll be able to walk in peace and trust God. He’s got you!
Covid-19 is a devastating virus. It’s a living, breathing thing that spreads silently and invisibly across borders and into bodies, sometimes bringing devastating effects. That’s terrible. Truly.
But I believe there’s a far worse virus out there—fear.
If we allow it to, it infects our minds and invades every part of us. It causes healthy hearts to stop and eats holes in stomachs. Fear causes all sorts of physical and mental maladies. That’s a scientific fact.
I’m not afraid to say—if our heads are not buried in a sand pile—we’ve all had at least a taste of fear in the last few days.
I have. I’ve had to get up in the morning and go to war with my emotions to get the knot out of my chest. It’s not the fear of death I’ve struggled with, although I don’t want to die anytime soon, and, of course, I don’t want to suffer. Mostly, it’s change. A disruption of my life. That the book I’ve worked on for so many years will languish on my computer because the finances won’t be available to market it. That my kids’ businesses will fail. The possibility of a recession, or worse—another Great Depression.
So how do we stop fear from invading our thoughts and emotions? That’s a question needing an answer in these hard times.
Even King David fought with fear.
In Psalm 56:3 David said, “What time I am afraid, I will have confidence in and put my trust and reliance in You.”
David, who penned most of the Psalms we take comfort in, feared when he was surrounded by his enemies. But fear didn’t paralyze him! Even when he was afraid, David trusted and had confidence in God. He knew God—because he had spent time in His presence.
David had seen God topple giants, and scatter enemies. He had experienced God’s forgiveness for grievous sins. He was afraid, but because he KNEW and TRUSTED God, he was able to deal with his fear.
You can trust God if you truly know Him, even if you don’t know what He’s doing sometimes.
Even when it seems like He’s a million miles away.
God has always shown Himself faithful to me. Yes, I might battle fear during this crisis, but I KNOW God will take care of me and my children. Businesses could fail, but if that’s the case, it’s because God has better plans. God’s plans aren’t dependent on the stock market or the American economy. If we turn over that paper bill in our wallets we’ll be reminded that IN GOD WE TRUST. Or should trust.
Trust is the only thing that will help us manage fear in our lives.
Rebecca and I believe there is power in repeating the Word back to ourselves. David believed that also.
Psalm 91:2 I will say of the Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I confidently trust!
Can you say it?
God you are my refuge and fortress!
God I’m leaning and relying on You!
God I confidently trust in You!
In John 14:27, Jesus says to His disciples, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”
This peace is a gift!
It doesn’t come from a change for the better in our circumstances. It comes from Jesus. It’s supernatural. The peace “the world gives” comes from our ability to help ourselves. Or the ability of others to help us: the government, our employer, our spouse, the doctor. The peace Jesus gives comes from merely accepting it. It’s there for us. Trust in the Lord!
